How Often Should a Fence/Deck Be Repaired?
As decks/fences age the lumbar will deteriorate. This may cause the deck to sag or handrails to be weakened. Generally, most treated lumber will last 15 years outside. Staining or sealing fences/decks can extend their service life.
Do You Paint or Stain the Fence/Decks?
No, and I tell my customers not to paint or stain their fences and decks for at least 6 months after installation to allow the wood time to dry from the pressure treatment process.
How Many 2x4’s Should Be On My Wood Privacy Fence?
Depends on the height of the fence. 6ft privacy fence and three horizontal rails while the 8ft privacy fence gets four rails. We attached all our rails with exterior-grade wood screws; we do not nail gun 2×4 to our posts.
